Director of Network Engineering
 
 
Position Profile:
The Director of Network Engineering will lead and manage a team of advanced network and optical engineers in engineering offices, lab facilities and headends. They will work cross-functionally with Product, Video Engineering, Project Management, Media and Operations teams.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Day to day management and operation of:
    • Extreme (Brocade) carrier and enterprise class switches and routers including SX and MLXe.
    • Cisco switches and routers including 7600 and ASR.
    • Juniper firewalls including ScreenOS and JunOS based models.
    • PulseSecure MAG VPN Appliances.
    • Multicast video network environment.
    • DWDM optical platforms including Fujitsu/Adva, Cisco ONS, Ciena, and Ekinops.
  • Design, installation and configuration of complete network infrastructures.
  • Act as a senior escalation resource during outages and troubleshoots.
  • Participation in a structured change management process.
  • Occasional night and weekend shifts are required in order to implement changes during designated change windows.
  • Documentation of network design and configuration.
  • Providing professional support to customers both internal and external.
 
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology area or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience required as a Network Administrator or Engineer.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a management or technical lead capacity required
  • Strong management and leadership skills with proven ability to provide very effective, results oriented direction.
  • Cisco Certifications preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
  • Experience deploying and managing MPLS networks.
  • Understanding of MetroEthernet (MEF) technologies and deployment methodologies
  • Working knowledge of fiber optics and testing methodologies such as OTDR, OSA etc.
  • Working knowledge of DWDM technologies, configurations, and designs.
  • Knowledge of network address translation and policy based routing.
  • Knowledge of IPSec.
  • Extensive knowledge of switching technologies (802.1Q, STP, RSTP, PVST+ etc).
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP and other basic protocols
  • Ability to generate and interpret packet traces via Wireshark and/or tcpdump to diagnose and troubleshoot.
  • Knowledge of multicast routing protocols such as PIM as well as IGMPv1, v2 and v3.
  • Knowledge of IPv6.
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies and the ability to generate rule sets.
  • Knowledge of wireless Ethernet technologies (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.1x) a plus.
  • User level working knowledge of Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux or CentOS Linux a plus.
